Deirdre is a neuroscientist doing research with fruit flies in the lab of Dr. Don van Meyel at McGill University. Her MSc project focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms that control the growth of neurons during development. She wants to engage the public more with her research, and Convergence offered a great opportunity to  try this in a new and exciting way.

Laura Rosero is a designer interested in the pluriversality and the social role of design. She holds a CEGEP degree in graphic design and is currently doing a BFA in design at Concordia university.
Her interest in the intersectional/interdisciplinary character of design pushed her to participate in Convergence through one of her classes to explore the possible role of art and design in science.

Convergence aims to inspire collaborative work, foster interdisciplinary thought, push the boundaries of what is considered science and art, and make neuroscience research accessible to a general audience. As part of this, they run a course which invites students to creatively explore the intersection of art, neuroscience, and society. Concordia Fine Arts students work with students from the Integrated Program in Neuroscience at McGill within the Convergence, Perception of Neuroscience initiative (concergenceinitiative.org) to create self-directed, collaborative projects which converge artistic and scientific research.
